Chapters 17 and 18 are by far my favourite part of the novel; fortunately, they take up nearly a quarter of its length.

I never knew Facebook had "Franglais" as a language option...

For me quoque in Latin.

The trolls of reddit have really gone downhill since the digg exodus.

thecompletegeek2 1 point2 points 5 days ago[-]

If you do that, reddit notices and cancels it out to avoid spamdownvoting, sorry. :-(

David Tennant... with a Chicago accent!!! haha!

thecompletegeek2 7 points8 points 5 days ago[-]

He doesn't sound like himself as the Doctor, either. :-P

What could you consider to be the most recent "classic film"?

thecompletegeek2 0 points1 point 5 days ago[-]

I find it very difficult to disagree.

My friend once spontaneously popped up with "meles meles meles meles meles meles meles meles meles meles meles meles fungus fungus!"

My Latin teacher immediately replied, "Serpens est".

I'm going to show them both this for their reaction. :-D

How about a list of intelligent scary movies.

Also an intensely beautiful film.

Cloverfield connected with me on a very strong emotional level; I was crying twenty minutes in and didn't stop until ten minutes after the film had ended.

It's a Good Film.

Also:

"It seemed to Hazel that he would not be needing his body any more, so he left it lying on the edge of the ditch, but stopped for a moment to watch his rabbits and to try to get used to the extraordinary feeling that strength and speed were flowing inexhaustibly out of him into their sleek young bodies and healthy senses. 'You needn't worry about them,' said his companion. 'They'll be all right—and thousands like them. If you'll come along, I'll show you what I mean.' He reached the top of the bank in a single, powerful leap. Hazel followed; and together they slipped away, running easily down through the wood, where the first primroses were beginning to bloom."

Watership Down, Richard Adams.

I've just realised that that's American football, not soccer. facepalm

Hey /politics! you like Jon Stewart, I like Jon Stewart. How about we all agree to quit posting clips from Gawker and use the Daily Show's website for links so they can get pageviews and the bump in ad dollars associated with that? Thank you, that is all.

thecompletegeek2 -1 points0 points 15 days ago[-]

Well, thank you! I was wrongly presuming you were ignorantly including the Isles as part of the continent, and it's always a treat to find out otherwise. :-) Sorry about that, old chap.

My goodness, I thought it was 1850s. I feel all dumb now.

Saw this at the bookstore today. Who are these Stephenie Meyer wannabes?

thecompletegeek2 1 point2 points 17 days ago[-]

The second book deals with her having to choose between the warm and friendly but dangerous Jacob and the cold and distant but really caring Edward. If you squint, it's soooorta P&P. But yes, I guess I could see R&J in the suicide bit.

Artsy types of Reddit: Why is this considered such a piece of art?

thecompletegeek2 0 points1 point 17 days ago[-]

And that's perfectly fine! I realise that it's a really influential piece, but I, too, wouldn't put it on my list of favourite artistries.

Age of Empires ffffffuuuuu-

I'm pretty sure that this sort of scenario was the reason for Spies's existence.
